Cucumbers chopped up on a board in different size slices

A multistate Salmonella outbreak has been traced to cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers in Florida and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales. So far, 26 people have fallen ill, and 9 have been hospitalized.

What began as a localized recall at Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market has since expanded. Now, several national grocery chains are pulling affected products—including salads, veggie trays, and sushi—due to potential contamination.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s been recalled so far:

  • PennRose Farms / Restaurant Depot – 5-lb bagged cucumbers (UPC 841214101714, specific lot numbers) shipped to NJ, GA, FL, IL, OH.
  • Harris Teeter – Loose cucumbers and veggie trays with UPCs 2040620000, 7203689327, 7203689328.
  • Kroger / Yummi Sushi – About 50 recalled sushi items with cucumber, sold with the help of Supreme Service Solutions.
  • Ukrop’s – Cucumber salad (various sizes) sold at Food Lion, Kroger, Harris Teeter, and others in VA, NC, WV, OH, KY.
  • Walmart – Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices (UPC 62969), sold in TX stores, May 13–20.
  • Albertsons-owned stores (Safeway, Acme, Kings, etc.) – Greek and deli salads with cucumber, sold across 14 states + D.C.
  • Publix – Loose cucumbers and salads like Watermelon Onion Feta and Spinach Salad, sold May 14–23 in NC, SC, TN, VA.
  • Big Y – Subs, wraps, and paninis made May 20–21 at 30 locations in CT and MA.

States with confirmed Salmonella cases so far:

Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

What you should do: If you’ve recently purchased cucumbers, veggie trays, salads, or sushi from any of these stores, check your fridge and discard anything that might be part of the recall. For the full list of recalled products and UPCs, visit the FDA’s official recall page

People who are most vulnerable to salmonella, like young kids, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems, should be especially careful.

We bought cucumbers from Sam’s club. 3 to a pack. Will have to check them. (Even though didn’t see Sams club as part of recall) Thanks for the information!
