Here’s what our Hip team shared about their Easter Traditions:

“We go to church on Easter Sunday, followed by dinner with family with lots of good food, and usually put on a little Easter Egg hunt for the kids. Above is a family picture from last Easter. Both my parents passed away in 2021 so it’s important for me and my sisters to be together for holidays with our families.” – Melinda

“We dye and decorate eggs the day before Easter. Easter morning we do Easter baskets and then make-your-own yogurt sundaes (complete with waffle bowls). Afterward, we hunt for Easter eggs in the yard or inside (weather permitting). The kids are growing up way too fast, but I am keeping up with the Easter bunny traditions until they all move out! The things they get in their baskets have changed over the years, but the Easter Bunny still focuses on toys and candy. For the Easter egg hunt, we always do Rewards (similar to this Target one) where the kids get prizes beyond just candy and toys. They are a huge hit and the boys always end up trading, and it’s so fun!” – Jenna

“For the past 10 years, I’ve been ‘hopping’ onto work on Easter to hunt down the best deals for readers and cover the Newsletter and Facebook, so my Easter might look a little different. But we still keep things ‘egg-stra’ special – we order dinner and relax out back if the weather is nice. I’ll sometimes snag myself a little something sweet too because every bunny deserves a treat on Easter! And even though my kiddos aren’t little ‘peeps’ anymore, they still get Easter baskets.” – Cass

“This made me go down Easter memory lane. I loved dressing the kids and doing egg hunts when they were little and I still love to decorate! Easter will look different this year as our son isn’t coming home from college but I am having a family member build him a basket. We are looking forward to trying this fancy ham from Snake River Farms. I am hosting my mom and brother’s family and we’ll do an egg hunt for his kids. One thing I love is my friend invites me to her family tradition of an egg decorating contest. Lily and I have won over the years for her spa day one and my Simpsons eggs. They have a traveling trophy and it’s serious stuff.” – Lina

“I love Easter. It looks a bit different each year, depending on if my parents are in town and if my brother’s family is free. We typically do brunch or a late lunch together. We always do an egg hunt and the kids have been obsessed with the ‘glow in the dark’ hunts lately so we do those in the evening! I tend to fill the eggs with small toys and just a few candies, the baskets tend to be the main candy vessel that way I can get each kiddo what they like best. The rest of the basket tends to be small gifts, crafts, etc. In terms of aging out, I will probably continue to do baskets for the foreseeable future. I have no plans to stop as they get older, like Jenna said the items just change a bit. I have friends who give their older kiddos one egg on Easter with cash inside, too. Haha!” – Monica

“We’ve always kept Easter pretty simple in our home, but we’re always sure to gather with extended family for brunch. We do baskets for the kids and I’m very intentional about what I put in them, filling them with useful and practical things and a few small extras (I try to keep each basket at around $50) because ultimately the stuff isn’t what it’s all about for us. It’s always nice when my kids don’t have school and we get a break from sports so we try to make the most of a long weekend together by doing something fun.” – Sara

“How do I have young adult kids already?! 😭 My son Ayden just turned 20 (TWENTY!!), and I seriously don’t know how that happened. Even though my boys don’t live at home anymore, I still say you’re never too old for an Easter basket. 🐰💛 I’ll be doing a little ding-dong-ditch delivery 😆 — the Easter Bunny is showing up at their doors with surprise baskets! I even grabbed a couple of those snackle boxes from Target and filled them with all their favorite treats. 🐣🍫”  -Collin

Happy Easter from all of us at Hip2Save, we love and appreciate you all. ❤️

Easter egg hunt when you first wake up! Started when I was a kid and now my fiance sets one up for me inside the house and I set one up outside for our parents to have fun too.

  2. Sheila

We always do a challah french toast breakfast that my husband prepares after kids open Easter baskets. Yummy!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

YUM! That sure sounds delicious! Such a great breakfast tradition! 😋 Happy Easter to you and your family!

  3. Terry

We get together with my Cousin, Aunt, Uncle and family for Brunch. Everyone brings a dish, so lots of good food!

  4. Lisa Ann Kratschman

The kids plant jelly beans in the yard. On Easter morning, they are surprised with their crop of lollipops!! We also get together with extended family and have an Easter Egg hunt for everyone (adults too)

    • christy pautuk

      Love this!

  5. Rebecca

We have Bunny brunch and various family members share their specialties from quiche, eggs Benedict, and cinnamon rolls! Then play some games or do crafts that change annually based on age. One year we made peep bunny houses like gingerbread houses. Finally burning off the delicious food with an outdoor egg hunt.

  6. RamonaR

When my son was young he’d always wake up very early to see what the Easter Bunny left. So to get an extra few minutes of sleep I would set up an Easter egg hunt around the house. I knew I’d hide a dozen eggs so it was also a way for him to learn counting, and I’d get a little extra sleep in before we’d see what the Easter bunny left. Now that he has two little children of his own he has continued the tradition.

  7. Eugenia johnson

We give out 5 different colors of nail polish in a cello bag tied with ribbon to the girls and ladies, and an array of flavored jelly beans to the fellows. We do this after Easter dinner.

  8. Jessica Routley

We hide our kids’ baskets somewhere in the house, and it’s usually a pretty funny place like inside the shower or a cabinet in the kitchen. They always have a good time scouring the house looking for their baskets!

  9. Kim

We have a community easter egg hunt on the saturday before easter. Over 2000 eggs filled with candy and it’s over in 15 minutes flat.

  10. scarr

We color eggs and have multiple Easter egg hunts. My son is 3 and has been obsessed with Easter egg hunts since last year. We have had many egg hunts since last Easter.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Aww! What a fun age to enjoy the egg hunts. 🥚🥰 Thanks for sharing, scarr!

  11. ChemieK

We hide our kids’s Easter baskets every year in fun, creative places and our Easter bunny also leaves eggs outside for the kids to find. We host Easter brunch at our home with extended family.

  12. Jolene

My kids are all young adults, but LOVE their Easter egg hunt! They get very competitive, with a little running and pushing at times, but all in good fun! We bring them all back in and they open them and trade goodies to get all their favorites. We often ‘lose’ a couple and the fun is finding them in the yard or bushes weeks or months later!

  13. Sherri

We keep Easter low key, we always go to church, have a small Easter egg hunt and have dinner with some family. The main goal is to remember why we are celebrating! He is Risen!

  14. Kathleen MacCubbin

Yes! We hide our son’s Easter basket. It is a tradition that started in my husband’s family. One year when my hubby was growing up the basket was on the fireplace. Two of the most memorable places for our son are the dryer and the shower. My dad has made up a scavenger hunt of clues to help his grandson find his Easter basket. It’s a fun tradition.

    • Kathleen MacCubbin

We also use cotton balls instead of Easter grass to fill the bottom of the basket; they are much easier to clean up!

  15. Kathleen MacCubbin

My sister-in-law “plants” jelly beans which always come up as lollipops on Easter morning.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

SO cute! 🍭 Love all the sweet traditions you’ve shared in the comments Kathleen! 🐰💗

  16. crystal

just simple dying eggs and on easter eve leaving a carrot out for the easter bunny and waking up to an outdoor egg hunt no matter what the weather has brought

  17. Kristen R

This is our little one’s 2nd Easter, so we’re still building our family traditions. We’re planning to go to our town’s egg hunt the day before and enjoy an egg hunt at home in the morning.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, that sounds like such a fun weekend ahead! 🐣 Love that you’re getting started with your own family traditions. Hope everyone has a great time on the hunts! 💕

  18. Suzanne H

Everyone gets an Easter basket and everyone participates in the egg hunt, regardless of age! I shop all year for Easter basket and egg fillers – it is something that brings me a lot of joy. For the egg hunt, everyone is assigned a color of eggs. For the young ones, the eggs are fairly easy to find; for the older ones, they are more difficult. I enjoy making it harder and harder each year (and we always lose at least 1 egg which usually gets “found” by the lawnmower)!

  19. Lexie Clark-Kimmel

When we were growing up, the Easter Bunny would unfailingly bite off the ears of our chocolate bunnies. Nowadays, EB wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing to my daughter’s chocolate bunny! Plus, he always seems to bring mom and dad their own chocolate bunny so it’s a win/win!

  20. Laura Merner

I make up rhymes, sending the grandkids around the house to find the next clue. This works well because we have a small house and sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate for an outside hunt. The rules? The clues must be read out loud and all the kids must hold hands as they race to the next clue so any little ones aren’t left behind. They love it!!

  21. Jen Bazyl

Easter is “my holiday” that I host each year. I continue to make Easter baskets for the adult children, and now my grandchildren as well. One tradition that we will continue to do, especially this year since it is the first Easter without my dad, it our egg cracking contest. We continue to color Easter eggs prior to Easter Sunday. Between dinner and dessert we have our egg cracking contest. People choose their egg and pair up with someone. They hold their eggs sideways at the larger end and tap their eggs together. The person whose egg doesn’t crack wins and moves on to the next round until there is a winner. Trophy included!

  22. AMY

My hubby and I hide an Easter basket that we made for each other filled with our favorites and then make a big breakfast and spend some time together before our family together since we usually do not get to eat breakfast together.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

What a thoughtful idea between your hubby and you, Amy! 💗 Appreciate you sharing how you make Easter special!

  23. Ken Ohl

We love our traditional Easter egg hunt and than our Easter dinner we love these days and traditions

  24. Denise

My family does an easter egg hunt…. not much, but it’s our tradition. It started when we we bought a house and were still in the rental. I hid the eggs at our new house on April 1st as a prank.

  25. Em

We enjoy Easter basket goodies and then go to church. Grandparents come over for lunch and we hide eggs. 😊

  26. Terri

The “Easter Bunny” hides egg early in the morning for my daughter to hunt when she wakes up. She usually goes through her Easter basket and starts eating candy. She eventually gets up and started getting ready for church. We attend church and celebrate the true reason for Easter which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After church my family, the grandparents, my older kids, and grandkids will gather and bring a special dish to share with the family. After lunch the Easter egg hunt begins.

  27. Teresa Rodriquez

Church on Easter Sunday and a nice meal.

  28. Kimberly Lapinski

We always do an Easter egg hunt first thing in the morning and then, after all the eggs are found, the hunt begins for the big Easter basket. The Easter bunny always leaves a note so we know how many eggs we have to find.

  29. Diana Camden

For Easter, my Mom would prepare this wonderful roasted lamb recipe. It was delicious and tasty with lots of fresh herbs. We all gathered for a big family dinner that Easter Evening. Our family is from Peru, so we didn’t really grow up doing some of the traditional Easter kids activities, but I always remember the big meals with great fondness. 🥰

  30. Mom2boys

Even though the boys are growing up way too fast the 🐰 still hides some eggs and leaves them each a basket filled with goodies!! Then it’s off to my mom-in-love ‘s house for a big brunch and some more family fun with the cousins!! I love that even though they are getting older they still love and appreciate the family time! It makes my mom heart so happy!! 🥰

  31. Erica Day

We hide eggs, give easter baskets to the kids, attend church, and have a family dinner.

  32. Erin Sunderman

My kids find the eggs in the morning, then we eat breakfast and go to church as a family. Then we go to my mom’s, where the women sit outside and get some sun if the weather cooperates while the boys play games on the basketball hoop.

  33. Betsy

We let the kids find their Easter baskets then head to church for breakfast and a worship service. After church we gather with our extended family for lunch and time to hang out and be together.

Because my oldest is now married and spending Easter with her in-laws I gave her and her husband their Easter baskets early with instructions to wait to open until Easter morning. 🤗

  34. Nancy

We attend church and keep our focus on the meaning of the day. We also usually have a celebratory Easter meal with friends and/or family, an Easter egg hunt and sometimes even a reverse hunt (kids hide the eggs and adults find them!).

  35. Kiki

We usually get up early and do an egg hunt. There is one egg sitting out with a clue inside to the next egg, and so forth. The final egg holds the last clue leading the kids to their Easter baskets. Then we have a special breakfast and go to church. Sometimes we go to an extended family gathering after for more fun!

  36. Lisa

Growing up my parents always hid Easter baskets for me and my brother but to make sure we didn’t find the wrong basket we had these cute little Easter decorations with our names on it with the bunnies pointing in the direction of our respective baskets.

  37. Han L

We still do an Easter egg hunt even though the kids are older! We put $1, $5, $10 bills in the eggs and also a few coupons to pick a prize from the prize box – a bin with awesome hip2save deals from throughout the year like kohls throws, board games, and art supplies. Fun gathering for the family and everbody happy with good memories and good deals!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

WOOT! I’m loving the idea of a prize bin of Hip deals!! 🙌🎉 So smart and fun!

  38. Pat Simmons

Our Easter tradition starts on Saturday before Easter. I make a trip to a home and garden store to purchase a large variety of spring flowers. I buy trays of different color petunias, geraniums, marigolds, basically every blooming flower available. I also purchase a huge bag of potting soil. Saturday afternoon all of my grandkids take an empty planter (reused from last year) and put together the prettiest arrangement they can. Kids from 4 to teenagers take part in this. I tag each arrangement with the child’s name that created it hidden under the planter. The next day I have them all on display, and all the dinner guests (including the grandchildren) will cast their vote for the prettiest, most original, and most unusual arrangements. The winners of each category win a prize, and of course there are consolation prizes of lesser value for all participants. I have found that cash prizes are most coveted. It’s a lot of fun, and I don’t have to plant my flowers myself!

  39. Karen

As a child, the Easter Bunny always brought me an Easter Basket. As an adult my mom always made me an Easter basket. She made it in something that could be used in my home such as a mixing bowl, a small trash can, a small storage basket. Today I carry on that tradition with my adult children.

  40. Jessica

We make resurrection rolls each Easter! The kids take Jesus body (large marshmallow) and dip it in “embalming oils” (just oil or water) and “spices” (cinnamon and sugar) and wrap it up in “cloth” (pilbury crescent roll dough) and then we read the Bible account of Christ dying, and being put in the tomb. We stick our wrapped body in the oven (tomb) and read the account of the resurrection of Christ. We get the marshmallow out, cut it open, and it looks like an empty tomb! So fun!

  41. Jaimee

Every year, our family has a special Easter tradition—a penny hunt! The kids run around collecting as many pennies as they can, but the real excitement comes from finding the lucky red penny, which earns the finder a dollar! Over the years, the hunt has evolved to include eggs and nickels too.

This beloved tradition dates all the way back to when my siblings, cousins, and I were little—even my parents joined in when they were young. Now, we’re passing it on to the next generation, and I know it’ll continue when my cousins start having kids of their own. It’s something the kids look forward to every single year, and it always brings smiles, laughter, and memories that last.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

What a cool tradition to pass along through the family for so many years! SO special! Glad it has been so well loved!

  42. Jaime Barnette

We always do an egg hunt, Easter baskets and make Resurrection empty tomb cinnamon rolls while telling the Easter story. It’s a beloved tradition for many years!

  43. Connie

The grandkids all stay overnight, and we have breakfast and an egg hunt on Saturday morning. Everyone brings a dish to share! Fun times! The adults join in on the egg hunt too. I think they have more fun than the little ones!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome that the adults enjoy an egg hunt too, Connie! Thanks for letting us in on your Easter fun!

  44. Debbie Parker

We always loved dying Easter eggs and hiding them for the kids to find. They especially loved shimmying up the door posts to get one on top!

  45. K

A special time with family. A special time focused on Jesus. A nice dinner.
We dye Easter eggs. The Easter bunny brings the baskets on Easter morning. We do an egg hunt in the back yard with plastic eggs.

  46. Allison Wakeland

My kids are young adults, but I still make up baskets for them and secretly place them out before they wake up. They still get excited for eggs filled with candy or cash. After morning baskets my family joins us for a traditional Easter dinner. So much fun with family.

  47. Anne

My kids are “big” now – 20 and 16, but they still enjoy Easter baskets, so I continue to fill baskets with their favorite snacks/drinks. We go to church together and enjoy Easter brunch with family and friends.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, Love that! My kids are teens and I still give them baskets too. I likely always will! 🤗❤️ It’s so much fun! Thanks for sharing how you celebrate each year!

  48. Teresa

Lots of food, family & fun!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Sounds like a great time, Teresa! 🙌💞

  49. Tim

So many great memories of Easter. Egg hunts (with real eggs!), baskets full of candy, delicious food, family and the “older folk” watching golf on TV! The good old days!

  50. Mrsyancy

My family actually have our Easter get together on Saturday, bc we have such a big family coming from all over, so we celebrate on Saturday so that people aren’t tired and sleepy after eating all of that yummy food on Sunday trying to go home. We do Easter egg hunts for the littles, but also include money in some of the eggs(golden eggs). We always have such a great time.
