Before you plan your stay, check out these must-read tips & tricks from our team:
- Check Groupon first: A Groupon deal once helped me plan an unforgettable, budget-friendly birthday trip that became a yearly tradition.
- Arrive in swimwear: Water park access starts at 1 PM (or earlier by location), even though check-in is at 4 PM. You can also stay until the park closes on checkout day.
- Towels and Coast Guard-approved life jackets are provided: Just bring cover-ups; towels must stay in designated areas.
- Book activity & dining passes in advance: Buy passes online ahead of time to save 30%+. Bundle for discounts on games, candy, ice cream, and more.
- Bring your own food & drinks: Rooms have mini-fridges (some with microwaves). Bring snacks and meals to avoid pricey resort food. Coolers are allowed, just not in the water park.
- Look for local Groupon dining deals: Save money by dining off-resort with local Groupon restaurant offers.
- Use coupons: Check online or print coupons for discounts on the gift shop, activities, and spa services.
- Military & First Responders save more: Get 25% off with valid ID using promo code HEROESA through the Howling Heroes program. ID must be shown at check-in.
- Visit during off-peak hours: Lines are shorter in the early morning and late evening. Even at 85% capacity, it rarely feels too crowded.
- Wristbands = keys + wallets: Wristbands function as room keys and charge cards. Kids can get non-payment bands for safety.
- Food Allergies? No Problem: The resort chef will work with you to provide safe, custom meals for allergy needs.
Wondering if the water park is suitable for your non-swimmer?
They have a dedicated area for infants and younger children to play in, and parents are encouraged to join them. The indoor wave pool has three settings: calm, medium, and high. Puddle jumpers helped, but it was overwhelming for three and five-year-olds to navigate alone. The outdoor pool is perfect for swimmers of all ages, allowing them to splash and play at their skill level.
One of my favorite attractions at the Wolf Lodge in AZ is the River Canyon Run as it is one that all five of us can ride on together! During our first ever visit, at just over a year old, my youngest was able to sit on the intertube with us (no lap sitting allowed) and enjoy this HUGE & fun slide with gentle bends and curves and a fun display of rainbow colors!
Hip Tip: On checkout day, if you plan on staying at the water park until it closes, be sure to be out of your room by 11 AM and store your luggage at the front desk or in your car. Pack a smaller bag with a change of clothes that you can take into the water park and store inside their lockers (available for rent). You can also use their showers and dryers inside the water park.
And don’t miss out on the freebies…
- FREE wolf ears: Ask at the gift shop for complimentary wolf ear headbands—a fun souvenir for the whole family!
- FREE onsite activities: Participate in dance parties, storytime, crafts, and more. Board games are also available at the front desk.
- Shutterfly freebie: Check your room for a Shutterfly promo card offering a free photo book of your trip.
Here’s why my family & I absolutely love our yearly Great Wolf trips (3 years & counting)…
I’m a Disney fanatic myself, so with countless core childhood memories at Disneyland, I feel like I’m almost an expert on magical experiences 😉 . Thus, I can confidently say the Great Wolf Lodge gives families a truly MAGICAL experience, on a smaller, more budget-friendly, and yet unforgettable scale!
Our most recent trip, just weeks ago, was the best one yet! It started with incredible staff members who were more than efficient and helpful with one of our issues and ended with countless hours of fun (I think my kids are still catching up on sleep! LOL). Although we never tire of the waterpark itself, we’ll never go back without grabbing the kids passes! The MagiQuest kept them entertained & in awe for hours, plus even with just 1 wand, all 3 of my kiddos were able to share and join in on the magic!
IDK how the Great Wolf Lodge does it, but somehow even for a small hotel room, the layout was ideal for a little parent and kid relaxation (and separation 😆). The kids had their own ‘room’ including a TV, but best of all the ‘bunk bed suite’ included THREE beds- one for each of my kiddos!
I can’t say enough amazing things about the Great Wolf Lodge, but just know that the water is always the perfect temperature, the lines have never been ‘too long’, and there is SO MUCH for kids of every age to do! I recommend this trip at least once to every family! ❤️
We are literally driving back home from our trip to GWL. I brought a microwave and foods I could cook in it like sausage tortilla wraps, sandwiches, quesadillas, pasta salad, rice bowls, hot dogs, etc. I also packed breakfast items like donuts and oatmeal packets. I bought the Wolf Pass ahead of time and that included a ton of fun items for our kids. For the stuff the kids didnāt want to do we (the parents did) so we got in on the fun too. I bought a food discount ahead of time too and that saved $30 I think. We ordered the pizza family meal for $42 which had a large pizza, salad, pasta, breadsticks and a 2l. We often had leftovers and we are heavy hitters when it comes to eating. I was shocked. I also got two of the refillable drink cups and we got our money worth for sure. The night before we checked out we got a text asking if we wanted to extend our stay for $99! We did! I had extra food packed so we didnāt eat out at all the extra day! It was so fun! Our kids said it was our best trip yet! Iāve already ordered a velvet cloak for my son to wear on his next MagiQuest! Iām going to use my vinyl machine to put his name on it! He LOVED playing the MagiQuest!
What an awesome trip recapāthank you so much for sharing all the fun details, Rachel! šŗš¦ It sounds like you totally rocked the GWL experience! Love how you packed smart with meals, made the most of the deals and passes, and even extended your stayāso cool! š Your velvet cloak idea for your son is absolutely adorable (and magical āØ).
