Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Day: What to Expect on June 5th
The new Nintendo Switch 2 will be launching soon!
The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is officially launching on June 5th, and if you’re looking to grab one on release day, here’s what you need to know about launch events and shopping options at Target, Best Buy, and GameStop. Note that retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Costco haven’t announced any special launch plans yet, but we’ll keep you updated if that changes. We do expect them to at least have stock in-store and possibly online on launch day.
Pre-orders have been sold out for weeks, so if you didn’t reserve one in advance, expect long lines and limited availability at most retailers. Whether you pre-ordered or you’re hoping to snag one in-store, there are still exciting perks and promotions to look out for. Several retailers will also have limited stock online soon too.
Target: In-Store Fun, Exclusive Merch & Savings –
Target is rolling out a special celebration for the Switch 2 release, and they’re making it a family-friendly event with lots to explore in many of their stores. Consoles will be available in stores starting June 5, with online orders opening June 6th.
Select stores will have Nintendo-themed displays in the electronics section and exclusive new Nintendo tumblers, toys, and apparel starting at $20. Plus, some locations will also host special events and giveaways, so make sure you check with your local store for more details.
Even better, you can score extra savings from June 5th through the 7th…
- 20% off select character and graphic tees
- 20% off select Nintendo and Pokémon toys
- Discounts on video games and accessories
Best Buy: Midnight Magic & Exclusive Freebies –
If you pre-ordered your Switch 2 at Best Buy, you’re in for a treat at the stroke of midnight. Most locations will open their doors at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5th for launch day pickup. That means fans can get their hands on the new console the moment it officially drops. 🙌
But it’s not just for those who pre-ordered—Best Buy will also have limited in-store inventory of consoles, games, and accessories available for purchase. And while supplies last, customers who pick up or purchase a console may receive a Nintendo commemorative coin, a cool collectible just to celebrate being a part of the special launch. 🥳
GameStop: Pay Early, Pick Up at Midnight –
GameStop will be holding launch events starting at 3 p.m. local time on June 4th, where customers can pay for one of their store’s launch-day stock of the new consoles. Then, at midnight on June 5th, participating locations will hand out the goods. Additional Switch 2 units will be available in-store and online at launch while supplies last too. This is one of the more traditional launch setups, so expect a bit of excitement (and possibly a line).
Quantities may be limited, and not all GameStop locations will be participating, so be sure to call your local store to confirm hours and availability.
Whether you’re hoping for early access, fun freebies, or just want to soak in the excitement, the Switch 2 launch is shaping up to be a big event at many retailers. Be sure to plan ahead—inventory will likely be limited, and demand is high.

I love and appreciate you, Hip2Save, but I really wish you had told us about pre-orders when they were available. I had no idea about this until a couple weeks ago when my son asked for one and now it’s too late to pre-order.
SO sorry you missed the pre-order, Christine! 🤗 We did post this in April, but it seems they sold out super fast! Hoping you’re still able to snag one for your son on launch day! 🤞❤️
OK thank you but I did a search for “Nintendo” on your website and the last post before this one was on March 10 and that was for Mario games that were on sale. Can you please send me the post you did? Maybe it has some helpful information for me?
Apologies for any confusion! The reason you weren’t able to find it when searching is because we updated the post with this new information about launch day instead of creating a new post. If there is specific information you were looking for about the pre-order, I would be happy to see if I can find it for you! 💕
I got one during presale and I’m just going to tell you it was an absolute nightmare. Presales went live at midnight and I was up until 2:30 fighting with the different sites before I was able to get an order to go through. All of this to say, you may have a better shot this go round!
