Michaels cart

Joann fans, there’s good news on the horizon! Michaels announced today that they will be acquiring Joann’s private label brands, like the favorite Big Twist Line, and more!

They will also be adding 600 more products, heavily focusing on fabrics, sewing, and yarn, which means that from seasoned crocheters to first-time knitters, every crafter can now find exactly what they need at Michaels.

Shoppers! Get excited for these changes + new products:

  • 10,000 fabric options available online
  • New Brother and SINGER sewing machines
  • 50+ new needle crafting kits from DMC and Loops & Threads
  • Expanding assortment of products from Clover, FISKARS, Coats & Clark, and VELCRO
  • New and expanding national brand collections from Red Heart, Bernat, and Lion Brand this summer

Big Twist Value Yarn

Customers can also expect to see 280 new Michaels stores as well as welcoming beloved Joann brands, including Big Twist Value Plus, Big Twist Twinkle, Big Twist Posh, and Big Twist Baby Bear, which will be available in stores and online later this year!

Overall, Michaels hopes to embody the Joann spirit and together, bring more inspiration and joy to every aisle to become the ultimate go-to craft destination!

Hip Sidekick, Madison gets it 🙌🏼:

“This is exciting for the yarn community bc Joann’s Big Twist brand of yarn was beloved. Hopefully they keep the Joann’s pricing, because yarn at Michaels is unnecessarily expensive!”  – Madison, Hip Sidekick

Big Twist yarn was bought by Herrschner’s , and is currently available, there. Since Herrschner’s is a catalog/online company, they must be supplying Michael’s.

I did see a new fabric aisle at my Michael’s. Exciting!!

I’m excited to read this. I’m glad they will help fill the void.

I am glad that they will have some more things for crafters, but they are the most expensive, especially since they have little competition. Their coupons are few and far between. Just an example. Beading needles that were $2.99 at HL are now $3.99. At Michael’s they were $4.99 now $5.99. Their bead prices doubled even before the tariff situation. Many of their things are now private label, so their margins are even bigger, but the quality is worse.

Michael’s actually bought Hancock Fabrics after they went bankrupt years ago and never really did anything with the intellectual property, patents or trademarks.
