Midea Window Air Conditioners have been recalled – here’s what you need to know…

One of Midea's Recalled AC units

If you own a window air conditioner, you’ll want to check your model ASAP. On June 5th, Midea issued a recall on 1.7 million air conditioner units sold across the U.S. and Canada under various brand names due to a serious mold hazard.

The problem? Water can pool inside the units and fail to drain properly, creating an environment where mold can grow—posing possible health risks, especially for those with allergies or respiratory issues.

Which models are included?

The recall includes Midea U and U+ window air conditioners sold from March 2020 through May 2025. These were sold under several brand names, including Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire, and Sea Breeze. They were available in 8,000-, 10,000-, and 12,000-BTU sizes, typically priced between $280 and $500.

They were sold at places like Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, and other major retailers. Find all of the included model numbers in this recall here.

The model number of your unit is printed on a label located on the side of the unit, near the bottom.

What to do if your unit is part of the recall…

If your air conditioner is included in the recall, stop using it immediately and request a refund or a free repair. Refunds will be prorated based on purchase or manufacturing date and require either returning the unit or submitting a photo showing that the unplugged power cord has been cut.

If you choose to continue using the air conditioner while waiting for a repair, check Midea’s recall page for important inspection instructions.

For more information or to begin the refund or repair process, visit the Midea recall website or call 1-888-345-0256. As of the time of the recall, no injuries have been reported, but over 150 incidents of mold growth have been documented.

Thank you for this. We have three of these. However, I do not think our model is listed here. I will say that they have been incredibly amazing and we have had them for several years and they are still working great.
